Riverside heads west for its spring break tour in AprilInstead of the traditional "Northern Exposure Tour," the Riverside Pirates will venture west this year to Chattanooga, Tenn., to play the lacrosse teams from the McCallie School and The Webb School April 2-6. The games will be played on April 4 and April 5. McCallie (pronounced McCAWley), located in Chattanooga, is a four-time state champion and was the runner-up in 2000. The McCallie lacrosse program began in 1989 and the Blue Tornado, as they are called, has been the dominant team in the state since its creation. It finished last season 12-5 and ranked third in the Tennessee power ratings on Laxpower.com. The McCallie Web site has lots of information about the school. Also, the lacrosse team's Web page has information about the program and the players. You can also find directions to McCallie on the site. The Webb School, located in Bell Buckle, Tenn., about 90 miles up the interstate from Chattanooga, came to lacrosse much later, but has been successful recently. The program began five years ago and only last year played as a true varsity team in the state's A Division. The team went 11-4 last year and played in the lacrosse state championship tournament. It was ranked fourth in the season-ending laxpower.com Tennessee power ratings. Their coach, Jon Bloom, was named Tennessee coach of the year last year, and their goalie, Craig Patterson, was named a prep All-America. Patterson began at the U.S. Naval Academy this fall. Their main Web site has good information about the school. You can also get directions to the school. There are also some player stats from last year. For entertainment before, after and between the games with McCallie and Webb, you couldn't ask for a better place than Chattanooga. It has one of the country's best aquariums. And don't forget the fabled Chattanooga Choo Choo, Lookout Mountain, Rock City and Ruby Falls, four of the South's most legendary tourist traps, er, attractions. For much more information on Chattanooga, go to the visitors bureau Web site. |
