Wasn't trying to slight YLS
I was aware of YLS but they have never competed for players with LOTH like SLIIC and now Velocity have. Didn't mean to sound like I was slighting YLS but their marketplace is pretty much the south side of Wake County while SLLIC and Velocity are competing for northern, central and western Wake and/or Durham and Orange Counties, or the same place that LOTH (Fusion Lacrosse) was trying to serve. Personally, I'd like to bring back Riverside's 2 nights a week version as it sated my appetite for HS lacrosse and I liked the crisp fall evenings.

Casualty of the Marketplace and misleading (?) info
Was going around the various websites to see when their fall ball leagues start and saw that Fusion's LOTH was not going to be a HS league this fall, but a MS league instead. I guess that Velocity and SLLIC have appealed to more players. And speaking of Velocity, their first night is Labor Day, Sept. 6, wonder how many will be ready after a long weekend at the coast or the lake.
Also went to catalxcamps.com for info on its fall league and read this, "The East Chapel Hill coaching staff and certified officials will serve as coaches." Certified officials as coaches??? Wonder if it meant they will have real officials instead of coaches.
Regardless, fall lacrosse is just around the corner which means spring isn't far behind.

More on lacrosse in Poirot
I saw that show on PBS and was wondering the same thing as the webmaster. The Montreal Lacrosse Club mentioned in the other post was founded in 1856 and in 1867 wrote down the rules of the modern game for the first time. It still exists; McGill played them in an exhibition game my son's (Sepp Stephens) freshman year (2007).

Not sure I like the new 30" and subsequent rules for getting the ball into the box. Leaves too much to the officials in my mind.

"The first modern women’s lacrosse game was played in 1890 at the St Leonards School in Scotland, where women's lacrosse had been introduced by Louisa Lumsden. Lumsden brought the game to Scotland after watching a men's lacrosse game between the Canghuwaya Indians and the Montreal Lacrosse Club."

Lacrosse in Poirot
Maybe some of you lacrosse historians can answer this question: Did girls at posh schools in England in the 1930s play lacrosse? In two of the new "Poirot" episodes there have been references to lacrosse. Last night he gave an award (the Pemberton Lacrosse Shield) to the lacrosse team at a private school, and later in the show lacrosse sticks were evident in the gym. In an earlier episode a lacrosse stick was visible in at least one scene.

Asheville tournament
Luke Andrews emailed me a few says ago about a lacrosse tournament in Asheville. I didn't see the email until just now. Here's his message and a photo:
Got back earlier tonight from the Asheville Lacrosse Tournament. The Fusion Greys completed a threepeat with some help from a handful of local guys (and help from Casey and Mike Powell!). Here is a link to a photo of some local fellas (Cory Coffman, Gates Benson, me, Nick Desper, Shawn Handy.
Luke says there are more pics at this link. He adds: "Nathan Farabee suited up, as did Coach Lantzy. Also, Chip Mayer, Ryan Cummings, Liam Banks, and Mike Curatolo played."

Congratulations to Mitchell Dupere of Broughton High School on being the first North Carolina player selected to the FCA National Team. The team will compete this weekend in Lake Placid NY against a Canadian All-Star team.
Mitchel Plays Attack/Midfield for Broughton High School and is a member of the FCA North Carolina Orange team.

FCA Orange 2-2 so far in Long Island. 9-6 win over RIp It Elite. 8-6 win over NH Tomahawks Black. 5-6 loss to Team Long Island Elite. 4-5 loss to Connecticut Chargers U-18 Elite. Playing very well so far. One more game to go.

Riverside camp starts Monday
The Bull City Lacrosse Camp, aka Riverside camp, starts on Monday at 9am. Great teaching camp for the novice player, lots of former Riverside players to help with the coaching in addition to Coach Kirkley. Beginning player to veteran, this camp has something for you. Iroquois lacrosse players who refused to travel on passports issued by the United States and Canada because they did not consider themselves citizens of those countries have exhausted their last option for going to the sport’s world championship in England.
Leaders of the Iroquois Nationals squad announced that a last-ditch attempt to persuade British officials to recognize their passports had failed. The team’s last scheduled game was to take place Sunday. Team officials had continued efforts to obtain visas for the players before getting yet another rejection from British officials on Saturday afternoon.

Ryan Flanagan
Let's all congratulate Ryan Flanagan, UNC’s all-American defender, for reminding us about what is really important in life. Ryan is taking a semester off from school this fall so he can volunteer with Fields of Growth International in Uganda. Ryan writes on the Fields of Growth website that he will help construct a school and an orphanage, and also work to help develop sustainable agriculture. Here is a link to the website:

Just as a update , Gold team went 3-1 in Greensboro or 4-1 not sure , 2-2 at green turtle , and 4-2 earning the 5th seed in the playoffs at tri-state but losing by one goal to CT Bulldogs who they beat the day before in bracket play . Including a nice 3-2 win over a LI Express team in overtime , overall great showing in the AA bracket with alot of parents asking "where are these guys from" look forward to next year , time to get the football stuff out .
